South Carolina wastewater operators were recently honored over a lunch in January. This quarterly recognition of operators who go above and beyond also served as a reminder that South Carolina Water Utilities and Blue Granite strive to be the best utility in the country.
Awards were given based on random inspections of all plans and decisions were based on compliance and safety standards. The Operator of the Quarter Award was given to Donique Hicks, and the Plant of the Quarter is Spears Creek, which is operated by Donique. The Rising Star Award was presented to utility worker Joe Monastra.
Steaks were grilled by Tom Creasman, vice president of capital projects, in addition to baked potatoes, for the room full of operators at Spears Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant, just outside of Columbia. As area manager David Hancock said, this was a great opportunity to get to know one another and learn how team members can help one another when in the field.
A safety minute was provided by area manager Curtis Simms before Adam Delk, vice president for engineering, spoke on compliance. His message was to keep everything “top line, ensuring all samples are compliant.” He encouraged all to take the extra time to make sure samples are taken as cleanly as possible and to be vigilant to give an accurate representation of what we are doing.
South Carolina Water Utilities is proud to recognize these exceptional operators in the midlands region and looks forward to the next awards luncheon, which will proudly include drinking water operators.
