Employees of South Carolina Water Utilities helped a handicapped Columbia man who was in desperate need of home repairs, through Home Works of America, over two days. Located in the north section of Columbia, these volunteers built a critical wheelchair ramp, repaired fascia boards, built a new door to the crawl space, repaired boards under windows, painted and caulked windows, affixed new shutters, built a new fence with a gate, and installed a new toilet with handrails. The teams of workers were primarily led by Field Supervisor Tim Thornton.
South Carolina Water Utilities, along with its “extended family” of Blue Granite Water Company, Kiawah Island Utility, and others, were pleased to volunteer almost 700 hours in 2024. Employees are encouraged to give back to their communities and the customers we serve. All personnel, from Anderson to Beaufort, water operators to bookkeepers, found ways to help fellow South Carolinians.
